Barbara Szot

Barbara Szot has a keen interest in language, literature and translation. She has translated a number of prose and poetry texts from the Aistriú project into her native language, Polish. Originally from Poland, she currently lives in the Czech Republic. She first started learning Irish during her Erasmus stay at Charles University in Prague and continued at Palacký University in Olomouc. Two other Aistriú translators generously provided her with help and feedback: Radvan Markus and Magdalena Kleszczewska. She used Markus’s translation of Nóra Mharcuis Bhig as an extra reference and shamelessly appropriated some of his ideas for the Polish version. Her first encounter with Pádraic Ó Conaire’s prose was Daniela Theinová’s brilliant translation of Deoraíocht.
