About Aistriú

  3. About Aistriú

Aistriú is a Galway 2020 project focused on Irish language literature.

It is coordinated by a team from National University of Ireland Galway, who have diverse expertise in the areas of Irish language literature and culture, Irish studies, and translation.

At the heart of Aistriú is a collection of Irish language texts on the theme of migration by eleven of the best known Irish language writers. The texts include poetry, short stories, novels and autobiographies, each one giving a unique perspective on migrants' experiences.

During Galway's year as European Capital of Culture, we are seeking to open up these texts to new audiences by translating them and commissioning original artworks that respond to them.

We are supported in this aim by our project partners, including EFACIS (European Federation of Associations and Centres of Irish Studies), Literature Ireland and Ealaín na Gaeltachta.
