Galway named ‘European Capital of Culture’ for 2020
The streets of Galway erupted in pandemonium this afternoon as thousands of residents welcomed the news that the City of Tribes has been named the European Capital of Culture 2020. They city beat off competition from Limerick and the Three Sisters – Kilkenny, Wexford and Waterford – to claim the title.
The judges were impressed with the energy and diversity of projects on the Galway bid book, which was entitled ‘Making Waves’. Projects from a wide range of artistic disciplines were focus on the themes of Language, Landscape and Migration.
